Thanks to Kate Gadway who, as a volunteer youth minister, works with emerging leaders of the Episcopal Church among the Native American community of Northern Arizona. Her blog is here. She finds that God transcends our attempts to keep Him safely within our religious understandings:
“Let me sort this out. We believe in One God, not one god for the Navajos, or the Jews, or the Muslims, or the Christians. We believe in One God who blesses us all, regardless of the name.
As a Christian, I see everything through the living word of Christ. That does not stop me from being humbled when I am with those who also live in God, although with a different description. God does not ask me to defend Him with my idea of God. I am pushed, nudged, thrown into situations where God breaks out of the images I have and demands that I recognize holy ground wherever I find it.”
